七夕祭り[ta-na-ba-ta ma-tsu-ri] - Part 2

Scenes from the Hiratsuka City (Kanagawa, Japan) Tanabata Festival, continue....

As shown yesterday, one shopping street was transformed into a large parade route decorated with large, hanging lanterns. I wanted to give readers a sense of the atmosphere at this event, so I shot a video. Enjoy!

After finishing up at the festival, Samurai and I headed back to the station, but not before jumping in a line to buy fresh Japanese sweet cakes, called man-jyu! While waiting, I could enjoy watching the automatic machine, which creates these delicious delectables....

Here is the inside of the box:

The box had paper wrapping, showing the name of these famous sweets from Hiratsuka City:

The inside of the man-jyu looked like this--white, sweet beans in a custard shell:

I hope you enjoyed attending a summer festival in Japan! ^_^

  1. While watching the first video, it seems surreal to see a lady wearing yukata.... Japan is very cool.

Also, "Nadeshiko Japan" is the nickname for the women's national soccer team. They won the World Cup last year, and will participate in the London Olympics.
