[Oh! Anime] is located on the 6th floor of Central World department store, in the central area. I've noticed while sitting on the trains, Japanese anime seems to be quite popular here among Thais. Who can blame them? Japanese stories are always quite unique and cater to every taste. I remember a friend telling me there was a manga about a guy losing his hair!
It's kind of neat to see these manga with the Thai script though....
If you're wondering about my favorite manga, that's easy. It's "Fushigi Yugi"/ 日本語で「不思議ユウギ」 Another I like for laughs is "What's Michael?" -- about a dancing cat. =^_^= I used to enjoy manga to practice reading in Japanese. These days, I've got my nose buried in my language studies.
Interesting! Some of my students recently gave presentations about Japanese comics, like Naruto and One Piece, that have become popular in other countries. I would like to read some manga to practice Japanese too but I haven't found one that I'm interested in. The cat one looks so cute!!
ReplyDeleteHi Mary H,
ReplyDeleteI highly recommend reading manga as a means of improving/ enjoying your Japanese language studies.
You should read "What's Micheal?" for sure.. you can pick up copies at Book Off.
As for others, why not ask your students for recommendations? Nodame Cantabile is a music one.. it became so popular, a TV series was made. See the link HERE
WoW !!! I lov Nodame Cantabile :) hey is the stuff in the shop mentioned above very expensive,n r thr any anime figures available ???
ReplyDeleteHello Annoymous,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comments.
There are anime figures available and they are not too expensive.
The mangas (comic books) however, are only available in Thai.
When I bought a book here, the shop lady asked me: "Can you read Thai?" I can. But just be warned, the titles on the outside are all written in English, but on the inside, there is only Thai. Be careful!!
Hi Cutenekko,
ReplyDeleteI've been to Beijing china where I bought some naruto, one piece, dragonball z and bleach posters. Those posters were 3 yuen each, that is 36 eurocents, very cheap.
I was wondering if there are those kinds of anime posters as well.
A friend of mine is staying in bangkok for half a year and if they would sell posters and for about the same price then I would definetly ask my friend to buy me some. Would you know anything about that?
Gr James
Hi Gr James.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, but I don't know about anime posters in Bangkok. I've seen a lot of manga (all in Thai or Japanese) and some plastic models.
There are several manga/anime shops in Terminal 21 (BTS station Asoke). I'd ask your friend to visit there and ask. You might find posters there.
I hope that helps.
Can you please give me the address to this store or any other store in bangkok where you get naruto stuff?? Thanks
ReplyDeleteHello Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteAnime Oh! shop is located on the 6th floor of Central World department store.
To get there:
-Take the BTS skytrain to Chitlom station, walk about 5 minutes on the skywalk towards Siam. You can enter the department store directly from the skywalk.
-Once inside Central World, walk to the central atrium area, and take the escalators to the 6F. The shop is behind you on the right.
Manga are all in Thai language (not Japanese).
You can find other anime shops at Terminal 21, on the "Japan" theme floor. I think it's the 2nd or 3rd floor. There is an information desk on the main floor, staff speak English well. Just ask.
Thank you very much Cutenekko :)
ReplyDeleteHave any idea where (in Babgkok), I can find naruto hoddies??
Example: like these http://imgs.inkfrog.com/pix/boten23/NSAH1016.jpg
Hi Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteI am not living in Bangkok now, so I will ask my friends there.
Still, I would suggest going to Terminal 21 at BTS Asoke station. Go go the "Japan" floor. That floor had several anime shops. Just show the staff the photo. They may be able to order the hoodie for you. ^_^
Also, I would suggest MBK. The 4th or 5th floor has a lot of clothes, T shirt shops, etc -- you could ask there. Just ask the first shop owner, he or she can usually point you in the right direction. ^_^
I hope that helps kha!
Hello Cutenekko! i am going to visit thailand (bangkok) for the first time and would like you to tell me where i may find proper anime stores easily in the most popular malls where i might just visit. Also tell me if bleach and k-on accessories and collectibles will be available over there. I just dearly need the cute k on anime things >.<
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous! Thank you for your comment.
ReplyDeleteTwo places to visit:
- MBK (5th floor)
- Terminal 21 (Japan floor -- 2F or 3F, I think)
To get to each place, use the BTS skytrain.
- for MBK, get off at National Stadium
- for Terminal 21, get off at Asoke.
You can definitely find Bleach and K-On stuff. K-On was actually being shown on the Anime Network last year in Thailand.
Happy shopping! (✿◠‿◠)
A new Japanese shopping mall opened in Bangkok last year: Gateway. It's located near Ekkamae station on the Sukhumvit BTS line.
ReplyDeleteGateway features many Japanese restaurants and shops. I haven't been, but it might be a good place to find anime goods too! Please try and report back here.
Enjoy! ^_^

Dear Cutenekko , do you know of any music shops in Bangkok? i need to buy some books (in English) like a beginners guide book to learning piano (teaching you all the cords and the music language etc.) or how to play play guitar for a beginner. i would also like to buy a Guitar at a reasonable price which ways less cause'i am a foreigner , and while boarding a plane they only allow u to carry a specific amount on the plane. It would be dearly appreciated if you give me a few shops, because i have heard that on the thai side , u can get afew instruments . Arigatou ! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your question.
I play classical flute and took lessons while in Bangkok, so I'm not familiar with guitar or piano much, however, I do know where you can find some sheet music and instruments:
1) Guitars -- The Guitar Avenue (Central World, 3F) Seems expensive but very professional.
The Guitar Avenue Website
CNN Go did a great article on general music shops around Bangkok. Chinatown, Pratunam and Siam areas have many shops.
CNN Go Article
2) Piano books and sheet music
-- Do you know Yamaha has schools in Bangkok? I would recommend them first. They also sell guitars too.
Yamaha Music Shops in Bangkok
For piano lessons and books, try the Yamaha school in the Emporium Tower building, 9F.
Yahama School Emporium Map
Extra:
-- Do you know there is a very famous music university outside of Bangkok? Mahidol University. I took a masterclass here, and most teachers can all speak English. If you are serious about learning, you can take a lesson from any of the professors (or students).
Mahidol university site is:
Mahidol University
Best to contact the teacher via email.
Also,
-- Do you know AngloINFO? This website is for foreigners living in Bangkok. They provide lots of useful information. I found a page dedicated to just music lessons and such. Here you go:
AngloINFO Music Page
As a last resort, you could also order the book online, or study piano online (via YouTube). There are many beginner adult piano lessons on the net. Just Google "Adult Beginner Piano lessons".
I hope my info helps. ^_^ Happy music making!
I have only one more Question. Are the books in Thailand written in Thai or in English ? For i am not familiar with Thai at all. Also, i also want to ask if there are any book stores in Thailand as well ?
DeleteHi Anonymous. Thanks for your question.
ReplyDeleteThe manga/comic books I bought in Thailand were written in Thai.
There are many bookstores in Thailand and many have large selections of English books. The best bookshops are:
Kinokuniya at Siam Paragon, Emporium and Central World)
Asia Books (Central World, Emporium, etc)
If you are looking for anime/ manga, try Kinokuniya. This company is from Japan, and are likely to carry manga printed in English. Just ask.^_^ They also have a great search engine on their website HERE.
hello Cutenekko :)
ReplyDelete:D i need your help again :D im going to china for the first time and and no matter how mh i search i cant find a good anime store in HK or beijing (where i am gonna stay ) . all they have is gundam which i dont want and the international comic city in sino center Beijing is not a kind of fmily type as i am with my family :P so if youve ever went there or you have any info about a genuine anime store in HK or beijing then please reply :3 :)

Hi Anonymous.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear the Kinokuniya helped you in Malaysia. It's an excellent book store chain, I think.
I've been to HK twice, but not for anime shopping. I found a thread HERE that talks about your exact question. Place mentioned:
Diamond Hill's "Hollywood Plaza" (figures & models)
For Japanese magazines & books, Asahiya shop. They may have manga. Information is HERE
Sorry, I've never been to Beijing, so I can't answer your question completely.
I was just wondering if you knew of any places in Bangkok that sold pokemon plush toys because my friend really wanted one but they are too expensive in Australia
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous and thank you for your comment. I am very sorry it has taken almost a month to reply.
ReplyDeletePokemon goods are very popular. I am pretty sure you can plush toys at the following locations in BKK:
-- Gateway mall (specializes in Japanese goods & foods)
-- MBK (near BTS National Stadium) --> go to the top floor (L5 or L6). There is a market there, with a kids toy/ clothing section. You might find things there.
-- Terminal 21 (near BTS Asoke) --> Go to the Japan floor. I've seen Pokemon-themed hooded pajamas there...
-- Toys R Us --> there are 4 locations in BKK area: Central World, Big C (Rama 4), Mega BangNa and Fashion Island. I am pretty sure this shop will have Pokemon goods, including cards and games. Toys R Us in Thailand
I hope you can find a great plush toy! ^_^
Hi , where can I get English manga in central world . Are there any merchandise of dgray man , nura rise of the youkai clan , and such like keychains , pens , and English manga.
ReplyDeleteHi Vishakha! Thank you for your comment. I am sorry, but I don't know the names of the manga you mentioned in your post. As to English manga, I did not see any in the anime shops in Bangkok. The manga I bought were written in Thai -- I used those as practice for my Thai language studies.
ReplyDeleteThere may be English language manga in the English language sections of major bookstores in the city.
Regarding keychains and pens and other anime goods, check out the Japan floor of "Terminal 21" next to Asoke station and "Gateway" (which is supposed to be a major Japanese mall) near Ekamai station -- http://www.gatewayekamai.com/index.php
I hope that helps you!
