Hiking Enoshima Island

I went to the beach (again!) near Enoshima island last week. It was bit too windy though, so after swimming, I asked my friend if she wanted to hike around Enoshima island for a bit? We spent about 3 hours there. Here are some highlights...

My friend wanted to go to her favorite restaurant for a beer. We were lucky, as it wasn't crowded, and could enjoy a seat outside. Check out the view from our table!

I ordered something many of my Japanese friends have been recommending: かき氷(shaved ice) with Blue Hawaii syrup. The taste was so refreshing on a hot day!

 Enoshima Island is still my favorite spot in all of Kanagawa. I hope you enjoyed it too. ^_^

Enoshima Island is located about 30 minutes from Yokohama. Access: Odakyu-Enoshima line to Katase-Enoshima station. Walk from the station to the island in about 15 minutes. There are many shops and small cafes / restaurants, so just bring some money and enjoy! Average cost: ¥400 + ($4 / 150 Baht)

I've been trying to cook some of my favorite dishes from my time in Japan...I guess I miss the taste of my second home.^_^ A friend recommended I try "Omurice" which means: omelet/rice. It's very easy... 1. Make rice. ^_^ // Fry up chicken (in my case, I used sausages), green pepper, onion and whatever else you like to put in an omelet. 2. After the rice is cooked, add ketchup and mix. Add the ketchup/rice to the chicken/veggie mix and stir-fry. [My German friend was really funny when I told her this recipe: "Ketchup?? With rice?!?! Ew!"] (laugh) 3. Make an omelet. Add the rice/stir-fry mix to the middle. Fold around the edges. **Hard part!** 4. Flip the entire thing over onto a plate. Melt Me Cafe

I researched to find the *best* gelato in Bangkok, and this shop: Melt Me , in Thong Lo, was the winner. The gelato case (click to see more detail): I headed over on a Saturday to treat myself. The shop features not only wonderful flavors of gelato, but also handmade chocolates and milk from Hokkaido, the northern island of Japan. Drinks, cakes and other sweets are also available. The chocolate display case: Handmade chocolate selections: I know I'm a pig for eating too many chocolates, but you don't have to rub it in!!! Customers can test taste the gelato before purchasing. Two flavors in a small cup costs only 99 Baht. (=$2.27 CAD/ 227 JPY). My picks: vanilla and forest berry My huge iced coffee: The theme inside is based on "Alice in Wonderland", with one large "tea party table" featured in the center of the shop. Cabbages & Condoms

If you can think past the name, Cabbages & Condoms is perhaps the MOST famous restaurant in Bangkok. It was started by a charity group that wanted to promote safe sex, lower the birth rate in Thailand and educate others in AIDS prevention. It's a really beautiful spot; at night, the garden area is full of small lights. It's highly recommended to take a date! ^_^ Garden seating area: Inside dining room: I made a reservation for my sunny friend, Ms. D and I on a Tuesday afternoon. We enjoy eating Pad Thai, spring rolls and an "ancient Thai appetizer". I'm sorry I forgot the name, but this appetizer had a unique taste: toasted coconut, with peanuts, sweet onions, bits of lime and to eat it, the staff told us to roll up the leaf and stuff that into our mouths!
