The P&L Club @ Conrad Hotel | Part 2

Image
The BK Magazine cigar tasting event continues... As I had arrived early, the owner gave me a little tour. I viewed the barber shop first, then moved to the club's centerpiece -- the humidor! A humidor is a temperature controlled space for storing cigars. The temperature should be between 18 ~ 24 C with 65~72% humidity. Humidors come in various shapes and sizes; they look similar to a wine cooler. This club's humidor was as large as a walk in closet. I took two pictures to give you a sense of the size: View Left: View Right: I was in shock at the selection, so I took some close up shots. Here are some famous brands for those who enjoy stogies... Romeo & Juliet (I have yet to try this one...) Montecristo: Drop by again tomorrow to see the tasting room, hear how cigars are made, and view more photos. The P&L Club is located in the Conrad Hotel on 87 Wireless Rd. It's open to hotel guests and member's only. Fees are 50,0...

The P&L Club @ Conrad Hotel | Part 1

Back in mid July, I entered a contest sponsored by BK Magazine. The prize? A women's only cigar & whiskey tasting event. I based my entry on my unique sense of humor, writing... One reason I should be selected for this event: I'm Canadian. According to the taxi drivers in BKK, Canadians are very rare in Thailand. Don't you want the chance to meet a rare Canadian??? ...and I won. ^_^ I arrived quite early, and the owner gave me a tour. Inside, there is a British style barber shop, where patrons can get a shave and a hair cut. Sink & chair: Detail of the foot rest on the chair: Shaving gear: Be sure to visit tomorrow; you can see this club's enormous humidor! The P&L Club is located in the Conrad Hotel on 87 Wireless Rd. It's open to hotel guests and member's only. Fees are 50,000 Baht and 100,000 Baht for one year. (¥150,000 & ¥300,000/ $1,500 & $3,000) This event, sponsored by BK Magazine, was free. Whew!

Ice Palace @ Siam Discovery

Image
I talked my friend from Kenya into going skating with me. I wanted to try the newest rink in Bangkok -- Ice Palace, which opened in late July. The rink itself is huge! A Canadian girl's dream... I was excited to have a friend join me. As she was a beginner, we went slowly around the edge of the rink. After 30 minutes, she was zipping along and didn't need to hold the railing. Yay! I loved the music played here --I skated around, singing. It was fun! ^_^ Detail of the wall mural: I recommend this rink for non-beginners only. While it's not as crowded as THE RINK @ CENTRAL WORLD , the skaters are quite advanced here. After my friend took a rest, I zipped around numerous times -- I wanted to show all the fast Thai skaters how well a Canadian girl skates! (laugh) Ice Palace is located on the 7F of Siam Discovery. Open 10.00 ~ 22.00. Cost: 1.5 hours for 250 baht + 50 baht deposit for the electronic card. The payment system (an electronic card) is a bit confusing, h...

Agalico Tea House | Part 3

Image
After chatting for 2 hours (I know, I know...we're girls!!), we headed outside to view the professional garden. According to the shop's website, this garden was designed by a famous artist, Mr. M.L Poomchai Chumbala (see info HERE by clicking his name). This garden did not disappoint. After exiting the tea house's glass doors, we found... This water fountain: ..a bench and chairs in a quiet area: ..a hidden flautist: ..a unique waterspout: ...and a gazebo: This is my favorite photo. I found this lantern hanging above an alcove. After snapping the pic, the essence is very Spanish, don't you think? ^_^ ***Special Bonus!*** One of my blog readers has been working really hard lately, so we thought we would cheer him up with a fun pose. He's a big gadgets fan, so we thought we'd show off ours. Hers is a Samsung, and mine is by HTC. (laugh) Sorry, no Apples. ^_^ Agalico is located on Sukhumvit Soi 51. BTS Thong Lor, Exit 1 and walk about 10 min...

Agalico Tea House | Part 2

After snapping photos of the tea house, it was time to order! My friend went crazy and just pointed to all the sweets going: "this one", "this one", "this one"..."Hmm..maybe not this one". (laugh) She is really funny. I just went along with her choices. Her selections were... 1) Blueberry cheesecake 2) English Scones & 3) Apple Crumble After milling over the tea selections, I found one which would please my mother: tea made to celebrate the marriage of Prince William to Katherine. The taste was awful though...so the Royals should tell that tea maker: "Off with your head!!" (laugh) Before: I quickly switched to a cinnamon and licorice blend, which was much better. ^_^ After: Tomorrow, I will share photos of the garden, which is attached to this tea house. Here is a preview of that post: Agalico is located on Sukhumvit Soi 51. BTS Thong Lor, Exit 1 and walk about 10 minutes. Agalico's website is HERE . Open from 1...

Agalico Tea House | Part 1

Image
A friend sent me an email with a link to this tea house last month, saying: "It looks like something out of a Jane Austin novel...we have to go!" I have a secret affection for Ms.Austin's works, so just the mention of this famous author perked my ears up. =^_^= We managed to visit here on a Friday in early August. The inside is as dreamy as the dashing Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice. Our table: A cabinet with curiosities: An elaborate birdcage: The dessert corner: Seating area (we later moved from our table to this sofa for more chatting....^_^): Crystal Chandeliers! Visit again tomorrow to see the sweets offered here and photos of the attached garden. Agalico is located on Sukhumvit Soi 51. BTS Thong Lor, Exit 1 and walk about 10 minutes. Agalico's website is HERE . Open from 10.00 ~ 18.00 Fri./Sat./Sun. only !

Khun Churn @ Ekkamae

Image
A friend introduced me to this vegetarian restaurant. It is often crowded during lunch hour, so readers are advised to go before or after this time. It's really beautiful inside... View A: View B: The menu consists of Thai cuisine only, but there are numerous pictures and English explanations. Non Thai speakers need not worry! Menu: My friend and I ordered fresh blended juice first. Mine was "An Apple a Day, Keeps the Doctor Away". Inside, there was apple, pineapple and lime(?) juice. Super yum! We decided to share three dishes... Phad Thai (my friend's favorite): Fried corn cakes: Chef's salad: Everything here was delicious! This shop is highly recommended, whether you are a vegan or not. ^_^ Khun Churn is located in the Bangkok Mediplex Building, G1, attached to BTS Ekkamae Station. Open from 10.00 ~ 20.00. Prices from 80 baht +. Excellent!
