Thai Suki

"Sukiyaki" [すき焼き] is a Japanese dish, but it's really popular here in Thailand. There are Thai/Japanese Suki restaurants all over the city. MK Restaurant is one, another is Coca.

At the food court, I ordered a bowl of sukiyaki with vegetables. (in Thai: sukiyaki naam sai pak)

Sukiyaki in Thailand is a little different from Japan. For one: the egg is pre-cooked before being added to the soup. In Japan, a raw egg is usually added last, over top of the vegetables, or the food is dipped in side bowl of raw egg.

The shop I visited offered two types: simple vegetables and "gourmet" - mushrooms and buk choy were included. The bowls were 40 and 50 Baht, respectively (120 JPY/$1.20 CAD).

I selected the gourmet bowl and enjoyed it. But the soup was a bit lacking in flavor. This is also quite common in Thailand. Thais prefer to use various spices to adjust the taste for themselves. Many shops have condiments and spices on tables just for this purpose.
